What we did: We designed a VR experience that merged the language of all-inclusive tropical resorts with Jamaica Kincaid’s jeremiad, A Small Place. The idea was to critique the isolating experience and power dynamics of being in control of the world when in VR, by comparing it to the colonial resonance of the tourist gaze within the luxury hotels of the Caribbean. It draws attention to the postcolonial contexts of Western technological advancement.
