Collective Grief / struggling to be positive

To even be positive on a day like to day is tricky. The Conservatives just won the General Election with a huge majority. Somehow this country has chosen to vote in a government who are responsible for the deaths and oppression of many marginalised people. It is truly distressing and shows how divided we must be as a nation. No one I knew in my sphere in London was thinking of voting tory. Everyone I know is grieving, in a way. But many somewhere are celebrating .

Today I was picking up some equipment from the Kensington resource store and taking the bus over to the White City campus and I looked out the window, knowing I was driving through the same borough where residents voted in a Tory MP, in the same borough where Grenfell happened. The move to vote tactically slightly screwing over the the left votes as they were divided over the lib dems and labour, but really should have just focused on labour.

This is among many of the minor tragedies and blunders in this election. (Another one that springs to mind is Faiza Shaheen losing her battle to challenge Iain Duncan Smith, even though his evil Universal Credit scheme is responsible for the deaths of many).

So where do we go from here? What does this mean for our planet and country? How many people will struggle and suffer under this government?

I am finding it very hard to be creative on a day like today, but am finding my project feels evermore relevant. I think the political side of my project must be clear — it is also about challenging the kind of conservative politics that says people must fight for legacies and titles, that tells people to protect their own wealth before the rights of others. It also ties back to a fear of death ultimately driving people to the fiercest sort of survival game — the sort that brings others down in its wake.

What terrfies me is that now it looks like this government will bring us all down and the planet too in the next 5 years.
